I went through the same ordeal about a year and a half ago. After unsuccessful attempts to buy it on my own through internet companies, I went to a good agent who got me a 20 year term life policy with a AAA rated company for about $220/year for a 500,000 coverage. Basically, I got the same rate an US citizen would get. I would advise you to go through an agent, they can do multiple quote and many are knowledgeable about H1 visas and the best thing is you don't pay any thing extra because the agents get their commission from the insurance companies. I did check the USCIS website for the July 17, 2007 (reinstating the July Visa Bulletin) and July 23, 2007 (about I-485 fees) notices that are specified on murthy.com link you provided, but did not find them. There was no agreement signed. It was just agreed on an email. Am i still bound with the emplyment laws. Just want to understand before taking any steps. Also the project has ended after 4 month but i don't have any document. Also company B can't reveal any internal documents.

1) if you have money and time u can do as many trades as u like ( no restrictions ) even u can execute a trade every minute ( provided ur employer won't mind )
2) Taxes has to be reported only on closing of position ( either in capital gain / loss ) as said by others
FYI: for tax terms refer captial gains tax details ( as of now more than 1 year holding 15%, less than a year is > 15% etc., )

To celebrate or not to celebrate is the question. I received this email from my attorney's office:
Congratulations! You and your wife are now Legal Permanent Residents of the United States! It has been confirmed this afternoon your I-485 applications were approved this week and your green cards have been ordered.
However, my online status did not change. My question is : Has USCIS stopped updating online status ? or Is this a mistake on my attorney's side ?
Can I do anything in the next 3 days to confirm what happened to my case ? Suggestions appreciated.
It is going to be a long long long weekend for us.

Hello,
I'm planning to get immigration medical examination done for my wife. We're also planning for pregnancy.
One doctor said we should not try for pregnancy for 4-6 months once she get the shots. He also said he will give a waiver for now for the shots but USCIS will ask for it later. Is that a good idea?
Another doctor said she can do a blood test and determine if she needs the shots.
Any body in the same situation?

Before I say any thing further, I want to clarify that I am NOT asking for any action but want to point out to a unique Gandhigiri protest idea proposed by one of our members:
On one of the posts rajmehrotra suggested "Something like a mass blood donation drive will garner empathy and publicity in a positive way." This was seconded by another member Gravitation. Not sure what other people think but I personally liked this idea very much.
So please save this idea for future use if others also recommend it.

As IV has suggested, make awareness by meeting your lawmakers , put yourself on youtube, contribute to IV etc. if you really want to campaign. I have a question, I am working with my GC sponsoring employer, filed I485 during July '07. My I-140 approved during 2007. My company has applied for H1B extension (for 3 years based on approved I140) recently. Please note that this 3 year extension will stretch beyond my 6 year (H1B) period.
+ You will receive a 3 year extension only if the PD is retrogessed otherwise it will be upto your end of 6 years period. I assume this is a non-cap H1B extension of stay
After the approval for 3 years, can I transfer the H1B to another employer? Since this extension is based on approved I140, is it legal to transfer that H1B to a different employer? (I have used the terms ‘extension’ and ‘transfer’ just for understanding purpose. I am aware that I will be getting new H1B (non-cap) every time).
++ Your new employer should be non-cap company otherwise H1B transfer is not possible - If they are non-cap then your new employer can file a transfer and (a) request for validity of 3 years from the date of filing of H1B transfer filed as long as you have an approved 140 and it is not revoked by your previous employer and your PD is not current OR (b) request for the validity with the end date of last approved H1B - Most employer(s) will choose option b, to keep it simple

there is no law/rule saying that you need to stay with employer after getting GC. However, GC is for future employment, so some people have been asked in past (just read on internet, so take with grain of salt) at citizenship as to why did they apply for GC for an employer they didn't want to work for. IF you get asked that question, you need to have a valid answer (layoff etc.). Also that question alone may not decide the fate of citizenship.

Can anyone point me to any documentation for physicians that suggests repeated follow-ups even after the medical report has been signed, sealed and submitted to the immigration office?
As with a lot of applicants from India, I tested positive for tuberculin because of the type of immunization we receive and had the requisite skin test and chest x-rays done. After this the doctor signed the medical report and gave me the sealed envelope. He has then put me on a 6-month medication program for tuberculosis. The medication is quite strong and is supposed to affect the liver. He also wants me to come in on a regular basis (and spend $80 every time) to get blood work done to "make sure the medication is in my blood stream".
I am not sure why I am being put on this medication for such a long period as I don't have tuberculosis. When I questioned my doctor, he said it was necessary - not giving any more details.
Have others gone through such an experience? Am I a source of residual income for his office?

I don't agree with what mbawa2574 has to say,but I certainly disagree banning mbawa for expressing views. I think, mbawa2574 is well within limits of posting anything that could hurt IV image/goals. ( On this thread, I mean).

I'd rather help channel his thoughts and energies in a direction that helps IV than ban him.

I think we reserve the right to make sure what appears on the home page of the website. Is there anything wrong with that?
Have you tried asking Numbersusa, Programmers Guild and your employer about changing leadership? What makes this organization any different? Just because anyone can post anything on IV website to get visibility on the homepage, its not ok to abuse the resources of the organization. We did not create IV to promote democracy or freedom of expression, there are ample of other sites to promote democracy and freedom of expression, you are free to use those resource at your liking. IV website is for a single purpose of achieving the goals we have set for the organization. You can find our goals on the website. And anything that conflicts with our goal will be removed. Its easy to use terms like democracy, freedom of expression etc to defend actions that malign the good effort put in by others. To make things clear, IV's objective is not to promote or preserve democracy/freedom of expression. We have a goal to achieve and we will not deter from our goal, whatever it takes.

If what you are saying constitutes a fraud, isnt filing the PERM the first step of the fraud and thats already committed -

Filing second PERM LC and EB2-140 for a higher level position may not consitute a fraud, if employer already filed EB3 I140. Going in downwards direction will looks like fraud.
My simple question,: Forget PD porting for a second.. In 140 form employer has to write reason that why second 140 was applied. In this case, what reason employer should write? Will they say that they are depromoting to lower level job.
Any way, it all depends on USCIS adjudicator. If he overlooks he may get benefit, otherwise it will be a problem for him.

Please help! My I-485 was denied by a local USCIS officer because of visa availability. My case is EB2 PERM based and I filed I-485 in July 2007 when the visa number was available.
Apparently USCIS made a mistake if they have any knowledge of the wellknown visa bulletin fiasco of July 2007 (Visa bulletiin No. 107). What should I do to correct this? If I file a motion to reopen (MTR), it will cost me $1500 legal fee+$585 filing fee. Any suggestions are really appreciated.
Here is what it said:" At the time you filed your I-485, the Visa Bulletin of the Department of State provided that the employment based visas were unavailable for persons in your category. Section 245.2 of title 8 of the Code of Regulations (CFR) states, in part:'an immigration visa must be immediately available in order for an alien to properly file an adjustment application under section 245 of the Act," ...
